In light of my recent posts about Troy Davis, I'm at a loss for words. What could I possibly write about without sounding trite? My life only hangs on the threads of my chance, my world so pearly white, that I am often the only executioner in my solo song.
I have a proposition to those who would commit the Death Penalty on criminals.
There are many of us who are tired of this mortal coil. We no longer want to live, for a myriad of reasons. We are soul-sickened, physically wrought, older by age or mental torment. We are lost to this world, unable to grasp it's supposed joys and suck on any fruits of ours, or any other's labours.
We cannot afford to get help, to move, to seek higher ground, because we are so unwell. I have a modest solution to the problems that have confounded such people; as well as those who would put a person to death.
An exchange program could be started. For example, I read about Troy Davis, who to all accounts is not the perpetrator. That man's been named, but not charged. Troy's going to die, probably within the next few days, regardless. So, my proposal is that some one who'd like to die is "exchanged": takes up the slack and dies for him.
It's a win-win situation. The person who wants to die, does. The person on Death Row doesn't. But the people who want a body to pay for a crime have one. As it doesn't seem to matter if they have the right one, so much, why not kill some one who wants to die?
This would save states butt-loads of money in terms of appeals. Also, the newly free Death Row inmate, his sentence commuted by his proxy, could will any monies over to the family of the newly deceased, just to show his gratitude and appreciation.
I know that this might open up a horrendous new form of legal action by the likes of Randy Spears, The Accident Lawyer and the other wanker who's been hired to sue me for a fender bender, but look on the bright side.
Those of you who are saddled with aging, infirm parents, or young, potentially dangerous kids, or downright idiot mates, look up! A whole new vista has opened up. In this exchange program, you could rid yourselves of these pains in your arse, whilst gaining credit by fulfilling a Death Row need.
The only problem that I envision right now, is that most of the people who are on Death Row are poor, male, African-Americans, many of whom are mentally ill or challenged, and from the Southern States. The monies aren't likely to be available for the proxy's family. Maybe the government would step in with financial support. Let's face it, this would be so much cheaper than housing those sentenced to death for years and years of appeals.
But hey, kids, this is a new idea that's got to have appeal! It's sexy, hip, new and ballsy! The socio-economic, mental health and racial issues? I'm sure we can figure them out. Yep.

Catatonic~It does me a world of good to read your words. I know you are deeply mired in your own troubles, so it's heartening to hear that you laughed, even bitterly.

I have just found out that this widget only shows some of my earlier posts. I am working on a new system, which will take a few days, ahem, a couple of months(!) to create. So sorry!
