College Quidditch, Who Knew?

Posted by kw

Hey there boys and girls.  I admit that my head has been a tad out of sorts, but had no idea how out of it I've been.  I was confused as to what day it was, couldn't remember my actions when I'd been deeply depressed and was spending too much time avoiding my life, by reading and sleeping.

I finally returned to work after about a month.  I listened to NPR and learned a boat load of stuff.  For example, the existence of Quidditch games being played at colleges.  I have only seen one Harry Potter movie.  The one where he is driven around in a double-decker bus that morphs.  The books and films came at a time where my mind was so dislodged, I could only watch documentaries.  My own mind was such a morass of lost memories, thanks to ECT, that I grabbed at anything that might bring me back to the world I had lost.

Thus, I know nothing about Quidditch.  In the British boarding school I attended, we played lacrosse, swam in the summer, along with Rounders, Netball and in my case, tennis.  But here it is, as reported by CBS News.

I too, know nothing of Quidditch and I think I've even seen a Harry Potter movie although I've not read any of the books.

Glad you're back and that you're posting. Hope you keep getting better. xo

Dear Dano:

I happen to read the comment you left on Soulful's Blog and was quite touched and teary eyed.

Now I have had the opportunity to read a few of your post; I want you to know how brave you are to face your disorder openly, and to let you know you are not alone and have others out here praying and hoping for your recovery and happiness.

Yours Truly,
Stan

PS: you are officially notified you are going to be one of the first blogs to receive the "A Hoy" award for your personal courage and wonderful blog effort. The link: http://threegoldsinonetournament.blogspot.com/

I loved the Harry Potter books. Unless I read something wrong, don't people have to fly on a broomstick to play? How are we going to play in real life?

i wonder how they play this...in reality. intriguing...

thank you for your comment...i did not post it though because you have personal information...i didn't think you would want that shown publicly.

Svasti~

Thank god I'm not alone in my ignorance! Did you watch the video? It's laughable, but for the fact that they are all having such a great time. A bit like the Philadelphia Rennaissance Faire.

So not something that I would participate in. But clearly a wonderful time for so many.

Stan~

Welcome, my new friend! You are very kind to take the time to express your thoughts. I am not brave in the slightest. I just try and tell the truth, something my family has worked hard to avoid. At all cost.

I'll stop by and see you very soon.

Thinkinfyou~

I have used many chemicals to help me fly over the years. Now, I only take psych meds, to help me swim.

If you look at the video, you will see a slightly creepy aspect of the real life Quidditch game: They run, holding specially designed brooms between their legs.

Call me a potty-minded fool, but it is a little, um, Freudian!

Merelyme~

Honey, feel free to post what I wrote, unless you are concerned about your readers. I have no shame. I am part of the walking wounded. I am me, warts, scars, bruises and all.

Click on the CBS link in the post. They show video of people dashing around, brooms between their legs and the college campus that they play on.

I went to the Philadelphia College of Art, in the eighties. A city school, we had no frats, no teams and our campus was the city. I feel very fortunate!
